Clinics and Competitions

Clinics

We encourage all levels of rider to take part in our clinics and competitions and aim to maintain a friendly welcoming atmosphere to inspire you to train and compete!

Our current clinics programme consists of regular visiting instructors, Peter Cook and Andrew Lovell, both BHSI’s, who compliment resident instructor Sophie Osborne BHSAI Int SM. We also have other excellent well known trainers visiting this year on an ad hoc basis

Sophie Osborne BHSAI Int SM - Lessons and Clinics

Sophie regularly teaches riders with their own horses either privately or as groups of 2-3 riders. Show jumping clinics are available on our fun clear round Tuesdays. Andrew Lovell BHSI - Clinic.

Lovell 1Andrew Lovell BHSI visits Cheston Farm twice a month, normally the afternoon and evening of the second Tuesday of the month and the last Sunday of the month. Most clinics are on the weekend but we are looking to introduce some evening sessions soon. Book now to avoid disappointment.

Andrew is well known and familiar face at various centres, horse camps and yards throughout the Region. Andrew has a broad background from Advanced level eventing, show jumping and dressage to showing ponies, hunters and working hunters. Well known as helping the nervous and/or novice combination, he can teach any level of horse and rider and is sure to be able to help you get the most from your horse.

Peter Cook BHSI - dressage Clinic

Peter Cook BHSI visits Cheston Farm once or twice a month on Tuesday mornings primarily to work as Sophie’s dressage trainer and to train the yard staff. However, it is a great opportunity for you to train with a top dressage trainers or have Sophie ride your horse under Peter’s trained eye.

Peter has many decades of experience in pure dressage. From training with dressage master, Nuno Oliveira, to running centres like Porlock and Bicton College.

Caroline Creighton

Caroline Creighton is a BE Accredited trainer. She has herself competed up to Advanced on a variety of horses and has been involved with the training and competing of numerous combinations to international 5 star level. Caroline is equally at home teaching all standards.

Aart Noordjik BHSI

Aart Noordjik BHSI is currently the section Lead at the Academy of Equine Studies at Kingston Maurward College, Dorchester, Aart is also a Chief Examiner of the British Horse Society. Aart specialises in the overall performance of horse and rider. Having spent many years training with horses and riders of all levels in a variety of disciplines, his empathy is very apparent. He trains horses on a daily basis and trains private client riders as well as teaching at dressage, show jumping and cross-country clinics.

Competitions

Dressage

The last Tuesday of each month and on selected Sundays, Cheston Farm hosts unaffiliated dressage competitions. The ethic behind the competitions is one of encouraging all to take part and have fun providing tests and competition for all abilities, from intro to elementary. We don’t get hung up on turn out - but if you do want to make the effort you could be rewarded with a best turned out rosette.

Horse Shows

New for 2012, Cheston Farm is to host a series of unaffiliated horse shows - We have a series of friendly, relaxed shows to encourage and inspire new or novice riders to try showing, as well as riding school clients who can use a CFEC horse to take part. Experienced and professional showing people may wish to get a pre-season outing but may be required to compete HC (Hor Concour).

Clear Round Show Jumping

Normally on the 3rd Tuesday of each month we run our clear round show jumping events. Carefully managed, all competitors are given a warm up and jump time to ensure that everyone gets the most out of their time. Heights are adjusted to the requirements of each combination as they come into the indoor to complete their jumping rounds.
